Bajan Model/Singer Nikita ‘Akasha’ Kunar Makes Song Debut!!

Bajan model & singer Nikita ‘Akasha’ Kunar has made her music debut with her track ‘So Right’. You may remember this pretty face from posts of BB Fashion Week last year & my posts of Bajan designer Kesia Estwick’s collection campaigns. The Honey Jam Barbados alum is one of the faces of Kesia’s KISS+Girl collection, and has become quite the ‘it girl’ for Kesia Estwick (see photo above).

Going by her middle name ‘Akasha’ to start off her music career, this Bajan talent will prove that she is NOT just another pretty face. In fact, music was her main objective before even venturing onto the fashion scene.

Bajan Model Sedia Jackman Competes In Caribbean’s Next Top Model

Sedia is no stranger to modeling & the public eye. She has made a significant impact on the local Barbados fashion scene, making many appearances on runways & ad campaigns. She even followed in her mother’s footsteps in becoming a Banks Calender Girl! One of the most publicized & renowned beauty titles in Barbados. She also competed in 2011′s Miss Barbados World where she placed second!

Now, Sedia has successfully entered the first official Caribbean installment of the famed America’s Next Top Model franchise. She will be competing against many other beauties from around the region to be the first winner of Caribbean’s Next Top Model. The program is hosted by the fabulous former Miss Universe 1998 Wendy Fitzwilliam (from Trinidad & Tobago), who I think is the ideal choice for such a job.

Rihanna: Most Popular Artist Online For The 4th Week!

RiRi holds the No. 1 spot on the Social 50 music chart for the 4th week in a row. Rihanna is the second most popular artist on the chart, with 11 weeks at No. 1 — behind Justin Bieber (27). Rihanna was also the first number-one act of the Social 50 on December 11, 2010. The Social 50 chart ranks the most popular artists on YouTube, Vevo, Facebook, Twitter and MySpace, using a formula that blends weekly additions of friends/fans/followers along with weekly artist page views and weekly song plays.

After the song became her 22nd Hot 100 top 10 last week – the fifth-best sum among women in the chart’s more than five-decade history, Rihanna’s “Where Have You Been” pushes 9-8 this week. It bullets again at No. 9 on Radio Songs (74 million, up 14%) and powers 32-23 on On-Demand Songs (335,000, up 17%). On Digital Songs, “Where” falls 6-7 (132,000, down 9%).

Channeling audiences from two massive online fan bases (over 75 million combined fans on Facebook alone) Coldplay’s”Princess Of China” music video featuring Rihanna was able to garner 7 million views in only seven days. That helped Coldplay rack up 14,732,000 views to its VEVO channel during the charting week. The success of the video created a positive impact on both artists’ fan bases. Coldplay added just over 147,000 followers across Twitter, Facebook and Myspace to their overall fan base (a 7% increase) while Rihanna added 407,482.

Coldplay wasn’t the only group to experience online gains riding the coattails of the Rihanna Navy. The greatest gains on the Social 50 this week were the five sisters that make up Cimorelli. The act returns to the top 10, jumping 16-3, reaching a new chart high. The jump comes thanks to the group’s video cover of Rihanna’s “Where Have You Been.” So far, it has earned more than 600,000 views since its debut on June 4.

Threads of Scarlet in Concert! – Review

Booming with excitement and spilling over with anticipation, the atmosphere was nothing less than epic. Saturday night, March 26th 2011, Threads of Scarlet proved to be not only the best rock act in Barbados but showed they are ones to watch.

From jamming to their original musical fusions such as Hot Box (a song promoting marijuana use) or rocking out to Falling From Far, a more classic hard rock ballad fully equipped with screams and high notes, Threads of Scarlet, for lack of better words, BLEW THE ROOF OFF! The event was highly publicised and the fans kept flowing in throughout the night, emitting an atmosphere reminiscent of Woodstock!

The event was also attended by fellow musicians Mahalia Philips of Nexcyx, which recently tore up the SXSW Music Festival in Texas, and Coverdrive‘s Amanda Reifer. Coverdrive got signed to Geffen Records this year and were spending most of their time in the studio. Look out for even more Barbadian musicians abroad.

Bajan Model Makes It To NY Fashion Week

Many of you probably already know this teenage beauty from my previous interview with her.

Fresh face Imogen Alexandra Cooper  caused a stir in N.Y.C amongst the fashion elite.

She showed the international fashion industry what Barbados is made of as she stutted her stuff for this year’s annual Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week.

This fresh face had EVERYONE talking!! One fashion designer who showcased at this year’s New York Fashion Week was quoted saying, “..look is commercial beauty and top model.”

Other quotes about Imogen at this year’s NY Fashion Week include:

- “You should do teen vogue as a platform!”

- “The model that everyone was saying carried herself like she’s already a star.”

- “People will start cuttin’ cheques when they see her!”

Imogen was also chosen to be the ONLY model to accompany designer D’marsh for his post-show interview with New York one tv channel
